Frequently asked questions: Odoo Accounting by SprintIT

What is SprintIT Odoo Accounting?

SprintIT Odoo Accounting is a packaged and localized accounting solution by SprintIT, operated entirely within Odoo. It’s an extension to the standard Odoo product and fully compatible with Finnish accounting legislation. The solution is built on top of the Odoo Enterprise Accounting module. We continuously develop the system based on customer needs and in cooperation with our accounting firm partners.

How does SprintIT Odoo Accounting differ from the standard Odoo Accounting module?

SprintIT Odoo Accounting is a full-fledged accounting software that enables legal, real-time accountingin Odoo. It includes, for example, a modifiable h chart of accounts, Scandinavian bank and Finnish tax integrations, and ready-made invoice templates. Standard Odoo includes an accounting module, which SprintIT’s solution complements. The default Odoo Accounting module is not localized to all countries, so Odoo default Accounting module does not necessarily fully support real-time accounting in some countries. SprintIT’s extension to Odoo Accounting is complementing Odoo’s standard Accounting.

How often is SprintIT Odoo Accounting updated?

It follows Odoo’s standard update cycles. Regular updates and maintenance support are included in the subscription fee.

What are the benefits of SprintIT Odoo Accounting?

With the SprintIT Odoo Accounting extension, your bookkeeping is always up to date. For example, purchase and sales ledgers are updated in real time. It automates most routine tasks such as invoice processing, inventory accounting, e-commerce transactions, depreciation, and accruals. It saves you time by minimizing manual work and data transfers between systems. You can also easily integrate time tracking, project cost monitoring, and landed cost allocations in Odoo. Odoo is highly customizable, which makes managing cost centers easy.

Can I integrate my existing accounting software with Odoo (e.g., Netvisor or Procountor)?

Yes. SprintIT provides working integration modules if you choose this route. However, we generally don’t recommend it, as many tasks would still need to be done manually.

What manual tasks remain if Netvisor or Procountor is used via integration?

  • Manual matching of Odoo purchase orders with invoices in Netvisor/Procountor
  • Monthly manual inventory updates
  • Bookkeeping is not real time
  • Manual allocation of freight costs (landed costs) to inventory
  • Possible limitations in multi-currency support
  • Dimensions may not transfer between systems
  • Ledgers are tracked in Netvisor/Procountor
  • E-commerce sales must be entered manually
  • Project cost monitoring becomes incomplete if financial data is split across systems

Which accounting firms offer bookkeeping services for Odoo?

SprintIT’s certified partner accounting firms, some of them operate globally. We’re continuously training new ones. Find the list above on this page!

How does SprintIT Odoo Accounting automate accounting tasks?

It automates tasks such as invoice processing, account coding, ledger matching, and report generation.

How much does the SprintIT Odoo Accounting extension cost?

Why should an accounting firm offer services for Odoo?

Odoo is flexible and scalable, making it suitable for accounting firms of various sizes and industries. It helps improve customer service and internal efficiency. Its user base is growing rapidly, and clients are actively seeking firms familiar with Odoo.

Why is it beneficial to operate ERP and accounting in the same system (the “one-system approach”)?

Centralizing operations in one system increases efficiency and transparency. When all data is in one place, everyone accesses the same real-time figures, which improves decision-making and reduces errors. The one-system approach means all business processes – including finance – are managed in Odoo. It often results in savings on licensing costs, which can be significant annually.

What does a CFO gain from the one-system approach?

It simplifies data collection and integration for reporting. Everyone in the organization uses the same numbers and terminology. It allows automating many manual tasks, freeing time for value-adding work such as analysis and process development. Accessing real-time information is easier, and communication improves.

What should you consider when choosing an accounting management system?

Key factors include scalability, flexibility, pricing model, organization-wide support, and user-friendliness. Ideally, the accounting system should be fully integrated with your ERP. SprintIT’s Odoo Accounting extension is a native Odoo implementation that complements the standard module, and meets for example all Finnish legal requirements.

What’s the difference between Odoo Accounting and popular systems like Netvisor or Procountor?

Odoo is an open-source ERP system. Netvisor and Procountor are closed-source accounting software. Odoo stands out with its flexibility and scalability. It adapts easily to different business needs, including international growth and business model changes. Check out our guide comparing Odoo with other solutions - see the info above on this page!

What features should a modern accounting system have?

  • High level of automation
  • Real-time and drill-down reporting
  • User-friendly interface
  • Cloud-based and mobile access
  • Ready-made integrations for banks, e-invoicing, and tax authority
  • SprintIT Odoo Accounting is a great example of a modern accounting system.

What are the benefits of accounting process automation?

It frees up time for more valuable work like analysis, consulting, and development. It reduces errors and improves efficiency.

What are the risks of automating accounting processes?

A common concern is job loss. But automation doesn’t remove jobs, it changes them. As routine work decreases, new roles and skills are needed (e.g., in analytics and consulting). It’s the responsibility of leadership to support employees through the change and provide learning opportunities.

What shouldn't be automated in accounting?

Decision-making shouldn’t be fully automated, it often requires human judgment. Avoid automating complex or hard-to-standardize processes, as it may be costly and inefficient. For example, consolidated financial statements typically require expert input and are not fully automatable.

What should be automated?

  • Many finance processes are well-suited for automation, such as:
  • Inventory transactions
  • VAT calculation
  • Bank statement processing
  • Sales and purchase invoice handling
  • Payment reminders
  • Financial statements and balance sheet specifications
