Case Diagno: Transparency and efficiency for workshop services with Odoo

"We realized we could immediately consolidate three systems into one."

Diagno Finland Oy, operating across nine locations, specializes in garage equipment and maintenance services. With tens of thousands of devices under their care—each tied to specific spare parts and servicing requirements—the company also operates under strict regulatory conditions that require meticulous documentation.

Previously, Diagno juggled three core systems (ERP, finance, and field service/asset management) along with a maze of Excel sheets. Data was manually transferred between systems, making it hard to get a holistic view of operations.

A need for one system, not many

Diagno set out to reduce manual work and gain a clearer overview of business performance. They wanted a user-friendly platform that everyone from field mechanics to leadership could use—and quickly discovered the benefits of Odoo.

“We realized we could immediately consolidate three systems into one. In the next phase, we aim to replace 3–5 more applications with Odoo. There's still a lot of untapped potential.”

Juha Seppälä, CEO at Diagno

Why Odoo and why SprintIT?

Scalability, modern architecture, and modular flexibility made Odoo the top choice. With Odoo’s clear pricing and manageable maintenance costs, Diagno could commit to long-term development without worrying about runaway expenses.

Just as critical as the tech was the choice of implementation partner:

“Partnership is one of our core values, and we felt it strongly with SprintIT. From the start, it was clear they were genuinely excited to build this solution with us.”

A smooth process from planning to delivery

The project began with a detailed requirement specification phase in autumn. This laid the foundation for timeline, scope, and budget. The actual project ran from November through April—and stayed within the agreed timeline and budget, even coming in under cost.

“From day one, Project Manager Henri ‘Henkka’ Komulainen proved to be a perfect fit. He really understood our needs and translated them into Odoo language. His ability to see the bigger picture and guide SprintIT’s development team was invaluable.”

Focus on essentials, customize only where needed

Drawing from experience, Diagno deliberately minimized customization. Over-customizing, they knew, often leads to expensive and unreliable systems.

Phase one of the project covered sales, field service, projects, inventory, asset registry, product management, purchasing, and accounting.

Field service and asset registry needed some customization. For example:

  • Devices often require maintenance logs formatted to regulatory standards.
  • Service reports are created on-site.
  • Each asset is tied to its own set of parts.

Custom functionality included maintenance alerts, more detailed asset information, and part-to-device linking. This now allows Diagno to handle most service tasks directly at the client’s site.

“When we enrich our asset data further, it’ll save us significant time. Everything we need will be in one place.”

One platform, many benefits

“Visibility across departments has dramatically improved. Within weeks of using Odoo, we could already see the benefits of having everything in one system.”

With sales and service now linked, product sales requiring installation are automatically routed to the service team for scheduling. When field technicians discover new needs at a client site, they can log that instantly via Odoo’s mobile interface.

“Having a single system opens up great opportunities for cross-department collaboration. Now we see what's been sold, how much work it required, and what it cost—clearly and in real time.”

Advice from a fellow ERP traveler

Juha Seppälä has this tip for anyone starting their own ERP journey:

“Make sure you free up enough internal time. No partner can do the internal work for you. Even though we thought we were well-prepared, we were surprised by how much time the project actually required.”

His recommendation: assign someone committed to the project with a broad understanding of business needs. That makes all the difference.
