Odoo brought transparency and efficiency to Marinetek’s global operations

A unified system connects the group and speeds up task completion

Marinetek specializes in floating solutions and the development of marinas. With over 2,500 marina projects in 50 countries, the company saw a clear need to unify its global operations. Marinetek has subsidiaries and production facilities in Europe, North America, and the Middle East, employing a total of 70 people.

In 2023, Marinetek began modernizing its group-wide system landscape. Previously, several different tools were in use; an outdated version of Navision, local ERPs, and document management solutions. Aligning data across these platforms was time-consuming, and group-level reporting required excessive manual work. The new solution needed to bring consistency and agility and make the group’s operations more transparent. The choice was Odoo, with SprintIT selected as the implementation partner.

“It had become clear that continuing with such a fragmented system landscape no longer made sense. We wanted transparency, standardized processes, and to get rid of endless Excel work. Odoo offered a modern and customizable platform for that,” says Group Controller Antton Boman.

One system for the whole group

Odoo was rolled out almost simultaneously in Finland, Latvia, Croatia, Sweden, and the United States.

Led by SprintIT, the implementation included modules for sales, purchasing, inventory, projects, and accounting. The system was also extended with project partial revenue recognition, plus integrations to SolidWorks, HubSpot, and the nShift logistics platform.

One of the biggest tangible benefits was seen in internal order processing. Previously, inter-company orders required emails and manual input into different systems across countries. Now, all inter-company sales and purchases happen automatically in Odoo.

“When a sales order is created in Odoo in Finland, it automatically generates a purchase order for the subsidiary’s factory. This, in turn, creates a sales order back to Finland, and the factory then orders the required materials based on the purchase proposal. The entire chain works without manual input. This saves significant time and reduces errors,” Boman explains.

Working as one group, not just individual units

The Odoo project also acted as a form of organizational transformation. Previously, Marinetek’s subsidiaries operated independently with their own practices. During the rollout, common processes were defined and rolled out across the group.

“This project clearly brought us closer together. Each unit used to do things their own way, but now we share structures and ways of working. We’ve moved from a ‘us and them’ mindset to a unified group,” Boman notes.

The results are visible in daily work: information flows more smoothly, everyone has access to product and inventory data, and project managers now have a tailored dashboard to support their work.

SprintIT, a trusted and skilled partner

SprintIT was the chosen implementation partner, combining technical knowledge with business understanding. Project Manager Marko Mäkinen was especially praised for his determined approach and ability to keep the project on track. Despite surprises and schedule changes, the project stayed under control.

“SprintIT always had a solution, often more than one. They brought innovative ideas, many of which we adopted. It was valuable to have an experienced partner who understood both the system and the business processes,” says Boman.

What’s next: smarter reporting

Marinetek is now finalizing its group reporting setup with Fuusor. Thanks to the integration between Odoo and Fuusor, the goal is to finally eliminate manual number crunching and provide tailored reporting views for project managers, finance, and the board.

“Odoo gave us a solid foundation, and Fuusor builds on it. Soon, all of our accounting and reporting data will be in one place and we can say goodbye to Excel for good.”

Efficient operations, satisfied leadership

Marinetek has taken a significant step forward in digitalization. With Odoo, the group now operates with one unified system, connecting functions, countries, and people. Information is available in real time, and decisions are made based on unified processes.

“I’m generally very satisfied with Odoo. The change has been significant from a systems perspective, although there’s still some fine-tuning to do. I’d definitely recommend considering Odoo when selecting a new ERP.”
